Lynn Hoover Increased Crop Yields with Pro-Soil
The biological farming products we sell at Pro-Soil have helped many a farmer to decrease inputs and increase yields. We believe in unlocking the biological potential already present in farm soil across the United States. Instead of pitching you each of our products, we thought you might take more kindly to real results from a real farmer. Following are excerpts from a video where Lynn Hoover of Triple L Farm explains how Pro-Soil has helped increase yields.
“Pro-Soil products have helped us increase yields by better nutrient efficiency. It releases more of the tied-up nutrients. The fertilizer that we use, it helps it to be anywhere from ten to thirty percent more efficient, so that requires less fertilizer to be used on the farm. There’s lots of nutrients tied up in the soils from over the years. From past fertility practices and just years of loading fertilizer out there. Some of it gets used; some of it doesn’t. Pro-Soil makes that [fertilizer] more available and we can utilize those nutrients instead of letting it be tied up or leached off into the streams and waterways.
We’ve been testing products on our farming operation now for soon to be 20 years. When we first came across Pro-Soil products, we saw a significant difference compared to competing products simply because two reasons: it actually did make more yield and the other is it left a margin of profit for the farmer. That’s always the number one goal. Also, it increased the feed quality for the livestock and grain quality for the elevators and that’s very important. I feel that Pro-Soil is in the top-10 percent of products in its class just because the results we’ve seen at our farm.
Pro-Soil will definitely increase your fertilizer efficiency; therefore less fertilizer is required to meet the criteria of that given crop. Just like getting more efficiency out of your pickup truck or your tractor. If you take the same fertilizer and get a 30% increase in efficiency, one or two things is going to happen. You’re either going to get more yield for the same applied fertilizer or you’re going to be able to get by with less applied fertilizer for your same historic yields. If you look at that factor, just that factor alone, it’s going to really help the possibility of really increasing national and world production of grains and feedstuffs.
The nutrient management regulations that we’re currently facing with nitrogen applications and even phosphorous applications, I mean we can meet or exceed that with Pro-Soil products under a complete managed system. That has us really excited, because that’s a big challenge; that’s a big question on a lot of grower’s minds. We’re confident that that can be met with some good, careful management and some stair-stepping guidelines to meet that criteria and understanding what we’re doing with the soil biology and the fertilizer resources that you source are very important also to be part of this complete system.
I would recommend using Pro-Soil products for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is we’ve got a lot of challenges facing modern agriculture today. We got resistant weeds. We got the nutrient runoff issues, nitrogen, phosphorous and so on. If we can be more efficient, if we can get by with less applied fertilizer, that’s less that’s going to make it to the waterways, less it’s going to make it to the bays and the Gulf and so on. That’s really important, because we have to keep the nutrients where they’re applied. We have to get more food production in the world going up to 2050. It’s possible; we got the resources to do it; with a complete managed system, I think it’s more than possible that we can accomplish this as farmers.” – Lynn Hoover.
